Whether pregnant women should fast during Ramadan or not completely depends on their health and the doctor’s advice. Please do what your body asks you to. Your child and your body will give you signs.
Nothing is more important than you and your baby.
If you have decided to fast, you may follow these tips while fasting during pregnancy and keep yourself and your child safe :
The Pre-Dawn Meal
Do not miss the pre-dawn meal if you are pregnant. That is going to be the most important meal of the day. Eat whatever you feel like. Add nuts, fruits, juices, coconut water, etc. in your morning meal, also known as sahoor. The meal will keep your energy levels high and won’t let you feel lethargic.
Water
Drink lots of water or other fluids. Hydration is the most important part of your pregnancy. Remember to drink a lot of water during your pre-dawn meal. Also, try to consume foods that are high in water content.
Manage your portions
Eating too much at one time might lead to indigestion and weight gain. So, do not eat too much in your pre-dawn meal. Eating too much food which is high in salt and sugar might cause bloating and heartburn issues which are quite common during pregnancy. Eat as much as you need to feel full.
A good night’s sleep
Good sleep is a must during pregnancy. Ensure that you sleep at least 7-9 hours every night. This will make you feel less lethargic the next day and will help you fast and smoothly.
Stay Active
Try to stay active throughout the day. Do not let lethargy hit you. Keep your exercise routine intact as this will help your energy levels stay up. But, be careful and do not over-exert yourself. Take a rest from work whenever you need to.
Always consult your gynaecologist when in doubt and do not stress yourself.
