Pregnancy weight is the most talked about topic during pregnancy. And if you are going to be a new mom then definitely you might have so many dilemmas around the pregnancy weight.
Well, as much as happiness the “ “We are pregnant” statement brings into your life. Changes in the body are a little hard to accept.
But, the pregnancy weight depends mostly on your pre-pregnancy weight and BMI(Body Mass Index). Studies show that most of the time the pregnancy weight depends on your pre-pregnancy weight.
Pregnancy weight gain by numbers
If you have been underweight ( BMI below 18.5) then the pregnancy weight gain should be about 13-18 kgs.
If you have had a healthy weight (BMI 18.5- 24.9) then the pregnancy weight gain should be about 11- 16 kgs.
If you have been overweight (BMI 25-29.9) then the pregnancy weight gain should be about 7-11 kgs.
Where does this pregnancy weight go?
It is not like a normal weight gain. You won’t be putting up weight because of eating, resting, etc. You will be gaining weight because :
- You are growing a human being inside.
- Your breasts grow large to prepare milk for baby
- Your uterus grows large to help the baby expand
- The placenta grows large
- The amniotic fluid around the baby & extra blood.
Don’t get stressed looking at the numbers. Remember we need a happy and healthy baby. And the moment you pop that little baby out you will lose 4-5 kgs.
Eat healthily and have a balanced diet. Regulate your exercise according to your gynaecologist and keep yourself active.
