New Mom: How To Bathe A Newborn Baby

Bathing a newborn may seem like an intimidating task, but it is also an experience to cherish for life. The cooing, singing and the sight of your baby looking absolutely beautiful will make it all worth it.

Baby Bath: Getting Ready

A warm place with an infant tub or sink or a flat surface

The first baby bath is usually a sponge bath but make sure to keep the surface warm because babies chill soon. Be it a tub or a kitchen counter or a bathroom, make sure to cover the place with a thick towel.

Assemble all the baby bath products in advance

Never leave your baby alone in a bath – not even for a second. To have a hassle-free bath, keep all things handy: clean washcloth or a baby bath sponge, clean bath towel, a clean diaper, clean clothes, oil/Vaseline and warm water (not hot).

Few steps for a perfect first baby bath:

First – Undress baby – Gently undress the baby, you can keep the diaper on for the initial few minutes.

Second – Start cleaning/ sponging with a clean cloth or baby sponge. Start with smaller areas first behind the ears, then slowly around the neck, elbows, knees, between the fingers and toes. Clean the hair and head at last just to avoid the baby getting cold. There’s no need 0f shampoo as the baby’s too small. To avoid water going into the eyes, keep the head back just a little.

Third – Remove the diaper now and clean the genitals, bottom and belly very gently.

Fourth – Gently pat the baby dry. Rubbing the baby will irritate them.

Do not take them under the fan or AC just after the bath, do maintain the room temperature and make sure to cover the baby head to toe.

Bath is over, your little munchkin is now ready. Make them wear a clean diaper and new pretty clothes.
