Congratulations! You are pregnant and with this comes a volley of unasked advice, opinions, horror stories and experiences from other pregnant women – which may or may not be true. A pregnant woman goes through many chemical changes during the nine months; some of which are really scary and worthy of attention. So, here we are today to share a few facts about your pregnant body that nobody tells you. You can thank us later, mommy.
- You Might Break Out in Acne – While some women glow during their pregnancy, some of you might have acne because hormones can stimulate your sebaceous glands, which can then cause zits. The worst part is that mostly you can’t use medicines that we generally use in acne breakouts because they can cause a nasty birth defect. You’d find specific pregnancy safe acne treatments. Kindly consult your doctors before starting any.
- You Might Wet Your Pants – You have to pee a lot when you’re pregnant. Do not sit in a room where the toilet is not close enough. What nobody tells you is that the control around peeing may be a little compromised as well. There are chances that you might wet your pants. Don’t worry, you’re pregnant.
- You May Have Sore Boobs – One of the first pregnancy symptoms that many women experience is sore boobs. Extra blood flow, fat production and hormones all make for tender breasts, especially in the first few weeks. You might feel itchy around the nipples and your areas around the nipples may darken.
- Extra Spit – No one seems to know why women have extra saliva while being pregnant. Nausea also is a plausible reason as well because extra saliva is typically the body’s warning mechanism to tell you to get ready to barf.
- The Exhaustion Is Real – Do not resist your sleep. Even if you have a very busy schedule, take a power nap. You might feel exhausted and drowsy all the time during your first three trimesters.
- You May Be Constipated – You have extra progesterone pumping through you right now and it’s pretty important – hence the name that means “pro gestating” – because it relaxes your uterus muscles so you don’t have early contractions. The downside is that it helps relax all your muscles so you get constipated easily.
- You Might Suffer From Leg Cramps – The possible culprits are compressed blood vessels or just the pressure of carrying around more weight. Either way, they are painful and wrench you out of glorious sleep. The quickest trick to relieve them is to flex your foot upwards and straighten your leg.
- Keener Sense Of Smell – Heightened sense of smell is a charming pregnancy symptom that many think is cute unless of course it’s you experiencing it and you have a repulsion. There are lots of suggestions to avoid smell – none would work.
- Skin Colour Might Change – Hormones kick up your melanin cells and they produce more pigment which will darken your freckles, areolas (the area around your nipples) and that charming line that runs down your belly called the linea nigra.
- Stretch Marks Are Common – Common thing in pregnant women as your body grows. You now have a lot of ointments and lotions to cure them.
So, try to focus on the good parts of pregnancy and less on the crap, and if you’re feeling brave, ask us to tell you about the things that may happen after you give birth too. Lol, JK.
